Punta Cana is located in the province of La Altagracia, on the eastern end of the country, and is the country’s main beach resort. At the northernmost point of Punta Cana is Macao Beach, one of the least frequented public beaches in the Punta Cana region, far from most hotels and resorts, but which in recent years has experienced a tourism boom.
Popular with locals, this stretch of white sand is considered one of the most beautiful coastal getaways in the Dominican Republic, with crystal blue waters and a boardwalk famous for its surfable waves.
Punta Cana is world famous and one of the most visited destinations in the Caribbean. It is made up of many of the all-inclusive hotels that have made it famous, as well as a large number of apartment residences that are being built with increasing frequency.
However, Punta Cana does not have the highest occupancy rate in the country, which is Bayahibe.
